The Rev. Bruce Hersey, director of the Open Door
soup kitchen in Glens Falls, got a little closer to heaven, so to speak, when he went on a hot air
baloon ride last weekend at the Adirondack
Balloon Festival.
But it took some persuasion to get him in the basket, said Joan Grishkot,
wife of festival organizer Walter Grishkot.
Joan Grishkot said that Van Anderson, a pilot from West Virginia,
offered Hersey a spur-of-the-moment ride on Saturday morning, but said that Hersey repeatedly declined.
"Finally,
the pilot looked at Bruce and said, 'Don't you have any faith?' " she recalled on Tuesday.
"And he went," chimed in
Walter Grishkot, as his wife was telling the story.
