Fund-a-feast boxes
We
are very thankful for the overwhelming success of our program to feed local seniors. “Fund-a-Feast” boxes, packaged
by the Hannaford Supermarket on Broad Street, and purchased partially by a $5,000 grant given to The Open Door from Senator
Betty Little’s office, for the specific purpose of purchasing food, and also partially through the generosity of shoppers
at the supermarket. These boxes were picked up and distributed to Office of the Aging meal sites in Warren
and Washington Counties, as well as to rural families in Northern Saratoga County, by Cindy Myers and CWI’s “Helping Hands”
program.
Many
thanks to all involved!

Numbers of meals served at The Open Door in 2008We just completed the total count of meals served at The Open Door Soup Kitchen
during the 2008 year. Not counting any meals that we served at the Balloon Festival, the Coming Together For Hope Festival,
or the literal tons of gleaned food that we continue to share with other organizations, our grand total of meals for the 2008
year is........................(drum roll, please!)....................
58,674 meals
This is a huge increase from the count
of 2007, which was 48,093. This just goes to show the great need in
our "small" community.
If you also consider that Hannaford
Supermarkets (The Broad Street Hannaford Store) donated several hundred "Fund-a-feast" boxes, filled with nonperishable
foods for us to distribute, and that we purchased several hundred other "Fund-a-feast" boxes to distribute to Seniors through
Warren and Washington County Office of the Aging, and that THOSE were also in addition to our meals, this becomes even more
incredible.
