To Whom it may concern,
I have been a volunteer at the Open Door Soup Kitchen in Glens Falls for over a
year. I chose to work there after retiring from C.R. Bard. I'm glad I made that choice, as I have found it to
be a rewarding experience.
I realize
how fortunate I am, that I'm neither hungry or homeless. With the economy the way it is today, even some working people
on low income come there to get a meal. There is always plenty of healthy food that Linda, who cooks there, prepares.
The Open Door is not just a place to eat. No meal is served without a prayer and a sign-up for volunteers to help after
the meal. Rev. Hersey is available for counseling to those who need it. I have found that the people who come to eat
are polite and very grateful. I've met many great people there, and have been inspired to attend church on a regular
basis, something that I haven't done in years.
I
get upset when I hear people put down people who come to the Open Door. Obviously they have never walked in their shoes.
I see children, seniors, young adults, some on low income, disability, etc. But the bottom line is they are hungry,
and no one is turned away. The best part is that some have found God there.
The Open Door is overcrowded now. There is a great need for a larger place to eat, and
also a shelter for the homeless. With funds, and most important, prayers, this dream can be reached. I pray it
will.
Sincerely,
Barbara
